Onegai shimasu – polite greeting

 

Arigatou gozaimashita – thank you very much

 

Gi – the karate costume

 

Rei – bow

 

Dojo – place of training

 

Hai – yes

 

Sensei – teacher

 

Shidoin – instructor

 

Sempai – older student

 

Seiza – to sit down in Japanese fashion

 

Kiritsu – stand up

 

Shomen ni rei – bow towards the ”shomen,” the front of the dojo

 

Otagai ni rei – bow towards each other

 

Keiko hajimemasu shomen ni rei – greeting to start the training session

 

Keiko owarimasu shomen ni rei – greeting to end the training session

 

Goju – hard (go) and soft (ju)

 

Jundokan – the House that Follows the Way of the Father
